At the national level, industrial activity in Mexico showed a negative year-on-year performance during September 2025. This result reflects the slowdown in several key sectors, as well as a lower overall contribution to national economic growth.
Mining
In the mining sector, the country registered a year-on-year change of -3.2%, with a negative contribution of -3.18 percentage points.
Power Generation and Transmission
On the other hand, the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity showed a year-on-year change of -0.1%, with a contribution of -0.08 percentage points.
Construction
However, construction remained the sector with the largest decline. On an annual basis, it registered a drop of -8.0%, with a negative contribution of -7.99.
Manufacturing Industries
Finally, manufacturing industries reported an annual variation of -0.7%, with a contribution of -0.72.
Industrial Activity in Nuevo León: Leadership in Construction
In contrast to the national outlook, industrial activity in Nuevo León showed a recovery in the short term. With seasonally adjusted figures, the state registered monthly growth of 2.6% in September 2025 compared to August. However, on an annual basis, the variation was -2.3%, in line with the national slowdown.
Mining in Nuevo León
Thus, mining in Nuevo León presented an annual variation of -0.4%, with a contribution of -0.04. Although negative, this drop was less than the national decline of -3.2%, showing a better relative performance.
Energy
On the other hand, in energy generation and transmission, Nuevo León reported annual growth of 2.4%, with a positive contribution of 0.04. This result contrasted with the slight national contraction of -0.1%, positioning the state above the national average.
Construction
However, construction in Nuevo León stood out with annual growth of 11.7% and a contribution of 0.97 points. While the country registered a decline of -8.0%, the state was among those with the largest increases, along with Guerrero, Guanajuato, and Jalisco.
Manufacturing
Finally, manufacturing industries in Nuevo León showed an annual variation of -2.3%, with a contribution of -0.30. This performance was weaker than the national average of -0.7%, reflecting adjustments in state industrial production.
Overall, the IMAIEF data confirms that Nuevo León maintains competitive advantages in key sectors such as construction, although it faces challenges in manufacturing.
