During the supervision of construction work on the Gloria-Colombia Highway, Nuevo León Governor Samuel García reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the Colombia Bridge, turning it into the country’s main border crossing.
This would be achieved by strengthening the bilateral relationship with Texas, one of the engines of the United States economy, the president said during the Security Roundtable meeting, which was attended by representatives from the United States Army and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
“In just three years, we’ve already surpassed 800 crossings, and there have been days when we’ve reached 8,000 crossings, a 1,000 percent profitability. We went from number eight to number three in three years, as Henry says. I have no doubt that next year we’ll be in second place, and even less so that by the end of this six-year term, we’ll be competing to make the Laredo Customs Office as a whole, Nuevo Laredo, Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo León the most important port in the world,” he added.
In this regard, United States Congressman Henry Cuellar emphasized that the daily crossing of vehicles across the Colombia Bridge should be at least 800.
“If we raise, Governor Marco González (director of CODEFRONT), a little more than 800 trucks per day on this Bridge (Colombia), that would be the number two bridge in the entire United States,” Cuellar said.
Currently, rehabilitation work is underway on the import lanes of the aforementioned border crossing. Concrete work is being carried out, replacing the current pavement, which represents an improvement in construction quality.
