As thousands of visitors travel through Nuevo León during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the infrastructure projects developed for the tournament have already become part of the state’s daily life through new transportation routes, parks, pedestrian corridors, security infrastructure, school sports fields, and metropolitan connections.

Under the “Ponte Nuevo, Ponte Mundial” (“Get Renewed, Get World Cup Ready”) strategy, the state government, led by Governor Samuel García and Mariana Rodríguez Cantú, head of Amar a Nuevo León, planned for the World Cup preparations to extend far beyond the tournament itself by transforming them into long-term public investments that benefit families, tourists, and future generations.

From the beginning, the governor personally oversaw the initiative through project inspections, inaugurations, and coordination with the responsible agencies to ensure that construction advanced as part of a comprehensive strategy focused on mobility, public spaces, security, connectivity, sports, environmental sustainability, and social infrastructure.

The state administration’s vision was for every project to provide permanent value. As a result, the World Cup agenda was designed not as a temporary intervention but as a public works program consisting of more than 30 strategic projects that will continue serving Nuevo León well after the tournament ends.

“In Nuevo León, staying true to our pragmatic approach, we decided that not a single peso would be spent simply because of the World Cup. Every peso would instead be invested in public infrastructure so that once the tournament is over, it leaves behind the great legacy of what we call the New Nuevo León. There are more than 34 projects that we will complete,” Governor Samuel García said.

Mobility

One of the most noticeable transformations is in public transportation. Metro Lines 4 and 6 form the largest monorail system in the Americas and will expand the city’s urban rail network from 38 kilometers to more than 80 kilometers.

The project includes key stations such as Airport Station and Torre Rise, along with new connections designed to strengthen metropolitan transportation in the coming years.

The mobility plan also includes the modernization of Metro Line 1, the addition of new electric trains, upgraded fare collection technology, expanded Transmetro corridors, and the deployment of 4,000 new environmentally friendly buses equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, security cameras, and intelligent monitoring systems.

Public Spaces

Nuevo León has also accelerated the development of parks, green corridors, and pedestrian routes that will remain as permanent spaces for recreation, mobility, and community life.

Among the flagship projects is Parque del Agua (Water Park), a 78-hectare park designed to become one of the state’s most important metropolitan public spaces.

Additional projects include the Green Corridors, Constitución Linear Park, pedestrian circuits along Morones Prieto, and the renovation of pedestrian bridges connecting Metro stations to strategic areas.

The state’s environmental strategy also includes the planting of more than one million trees and the Urban Forests Program, aimed at expanding green infrastructure throughout Nuevo León.

Parks

Fundidora Park expanded by more than 20 hectares to host the official World Cup Fan Fest. After the tournament, the expanded area will remain as part of the state’s permanent public park system.

Other projects include metropolitan parks and recreational spaces such as Parque Libertad, Parque Presa León, Parque Tigre, Parque del Árbol, Parque La Estanzuela, Parque El Cuchillo, Parque Cerro Prieto, Parque Cerro de las Mitras, Parque Cerro de la Silla, Parque Niños Héroes, and the La Boca Reservoir Boardwalk.

Roads and Bridges

Major transportation projects include the modernization of the Colombia Border Crossing, the new La Gloria–Colombia Highway, the New Peripheral Highway, and the Airport Expressway.

Among the most notable structures are the Nuevo Bridge and La Virgen Bridge, two pedestrian bridges measuring 150 meters long and 60 meters high over the Santa Catarina River.

Both bridges were designed to improve connectivity between Constitución and Morones Prieto while providing easier access to Metro Lines 4 and 6.

Security

The state government built the new Fuerza Civil Headquarters on Morones Prieto Avenue as part of an effort to strengthen public security operations.

The project includes new specialized divisions, a second Black Hawk helicopter, nine additional helicopters, Black Mamba tactical vehicles, new patrol units, and 16 security outposts.

Schools

Through the “Ponte Nuevo, Ponte Mundial” program, Samuel García and Mariana Rodríguez promoted the construction of more than 550 sports courts in schools, benefiting over 650,000 children and teenagers.

The social development agenda also includes projects such as the Children’s Hospital, the Capullos Bridge, “Alimentar con Amor” breastfeeding facilities at the Monterrey International Airport, an Intervention Center for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and support for entrepreneurs through the Hecho en Nuevo León (Made in Nuevo León) program.

The administration led by Samuel García Sepúlveda aims for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to leave behind not only memorable celebrations but also lasting public works that continue serving the people of Nuevo León, including Metro expansions, parks, pedestrian corridors, highways, sports facilities, security infrastructure, and social development projects.
