Promoting the economic and social development of Anáhuac, Nuevo León, by leveraging the benefits of the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge was the central focus of a new agreement signed between the Ministry of Economy, CODEFRONT, the Logistics Cluster, and the Health and Medical Tourism Cluster.

The agreement seeks to manage and formalize the necessary instruments for the installation and operation of a medical clinic within the Center for Foreign Trade Facilities (CEFACIL), in addition to coordinating institutional coordination to ensure the project’s viability.

How has the Colombia Bridge grown in recent years?

Emmanuel Loo, Nuevo León’s Undersecretary of Investment, emphasized the importance of promoting the Colombia Bridge as a logistics hub for new investments in the state. He noted that companies will be able to channel their cargo through this route, along with the new La Gloria-Colombia Highway.

On the other hand, Marco Antonio González—Secretary of Regional and Agricultural Development—highlighted that in less than four years, crossings at the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge have grown exponentially, reaching 7,000 heavy and light vehicles.

How will medical tourism be promoted at the border?

Likewise, the Health and Medical Tourism Cluster will assume operation of the clinic, guaranteeing standards of quality, safety, and specialized care. Its objective will be to offer attractive medical services to international visitors, consolidating Nuevo León as a competitive destination for medical tourism.

“The agreement is extremely important because through the Texas border with Nuevo León, we will promote medical tourism and strengthen the state’s image as a healthcare destination,” stated Rodrigo García, director of the Health and Medical Tourism Cluster.

What role will the Logistics Cluster play in the project?

However, the Logistics Cluster will implement schemes to ensure the efficient and safe transfer of visitors from the United States to the clinic. Likewise, it will coordinate cross-border mobility issues with the relevant authorities.

“There is a need to develop Colombia as something more than a border bridge. We want to transform it into a first-class border city,” said Ramón Muñozcano, director of the Logistics Cluster.

Finally, the agreement entered into force immediately and will remain in effect indefinitely, reinforcing the commitment to turning Puente Colombia into a hub for international economic, logistical, and health development.
