Authorities in the municipality of Montemorelos, Nuevo León, are investigating the alleged kidnapping of a female employee of the Atayde Circus, who was found showing signs of violence on the streets of the Del Maestro neighborhood. The incident occurred just a few blocks from where the show has been performing since early April. The show’s management has not commented, and it is unknown whether additional security measures have been implemented for the rest of the crew.

The discovery occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 17, when neighbors alerted authorities after hearing cries for help. Similarly, in a video posted on social media, the victim was found sitting in a public street, her face covered in bandages, gagged, her hands tied behind her back, and her clothes torn. She was also disoriented and in an apparent nervous breakdown, while wanting to return to the circus where, she says, she was working.

The scene of the incident was a residential area with a large crowd of people, allowing neighbors to react quickly. Paramedics treated the victim, who did not suffer serious injuries, but remains under guard while authorities continue their investigation.

In her own testimony, she recounts that she was intercepted by unidentified individuals while she was going to a supermarket and held for a time inside a van. She then suggests that she was abruptly released after her cell phone’s location was detected, although this information has not yet been confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Nuevo León.

Municipal police officers and prosecutors responded to the scene to provide care to the victim and gather information about the incident. Although her family and the employee decided not to file a formal complaint, authorities opened an investigation file. So far, no one has been arrested, nor has the motive for the alleged kidnapping been confirmed. Meanwhile, the victim will be interviewed by judicial personnel to expand her testimony and determine the circumstances of her alleged deprivation of liberty.

This case occurs amid increasing violence in the southern region of Nuevo León. In recent weeks, Montemorelos has been the scene of armed confrontations and other criminal acts. Last March, state police killed eight alleged members of a criminal group in the community of El Ranchito. Similarly, in previous years, cases of kidnappings and assaults have been documented in the area.
