Texas would “steal” nearshoring from Nuevo Leon

Historically, Nuevo León (NL) and Texas have been characterized by having a brotherhood, but due to the possible approval of the judicial reform and the fact that it has electric energy with lower prices, nearshoring investments could lean towards the Lone Star State, warned executives and experts of the Nuevo León Energy Cluster.

“Unfortunately, in this business, one should never underestimate, now it seems that Texas could be NL’s great enemy in capturing nearshoring, other types of problems are appearing that we did not see three months ago, which have settled down as a result of this situation in Mexico,” said businessman César Cadena Cadena.

The president of the Nuevo León Energy Cluster also said that, “the competition that NL could have is the cost of electricity, plus another very important thing, and that refers to the fact that there are a series of municipal, state, federal (in the US) incentives to encourage investment, and that could turn things around.

“They (Texas) have a serious problem, they don’t have manpower; however, they could open a temporary import (of human resources) and then they would turn the balance in another direction, because people from here could go to work with papers.

“The Texan will try to take advantage, I sell you that you don’t need to be on that side of the border, you will be on this side, you will even save on freight, companies that do not require manpower will be very competitive,” said the businessman.
