Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), General Luis Cresencio Sandoval

The head of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), Luis Cresencio Sandoval reported that he tested positive for COVID-19. Through his Twitter account, he explained that he will continue with his duties in isolation from his home, under medical treatment and relying on Sedena officials.

Last Tuesday, Luis Cresencio was at the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador from where he reported on the logistics of delivery of the new shipments of Pfizer vaccines. At the meeting, he was accompanied by Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard, the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer, and Undersecretary Hugo López-Gattell.

The Secretary of Public Administration, Irma Eréndira Sandoval, sent a message to the secretary, as did Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of the Economy, commented that she will be attentive to his health.

Members of the federal cabinet who have been infected are Irma Eréndira Sandoval; the head of the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco), Ricardo Sheffield Ibarra; the director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo; and the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), Arturo Herrera.

The Secretary of Communications and Transportation (SCT), Jorge Arganis, and Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), have also tested positive for coronavirus. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, head of government of Mexico City, confirmed her contagion on October 27 of last year.

And of course, the most recent positive case was President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who was isolated for two weeks and was replaced in the morning conferences by the Secretary of Government, Olga Sánchez Cordero.
