Mexico has officially been recognized as the “best host in the world” following the successful conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026, according to the latest Expat Insider 2025 study conducted by InterNations and released by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism.
The global report placed Mexico at the top of the world rankings in the “Ease of Welcoming” and “Culture & Welcome” categories. Additionally, the country secured second place for ease of making friends and third for the overall friendliness of its local population.
The survey data highlights a strikingly positive visitor experience: 88 percent of international visitors felt welcomed in Mexico, significantly exceeding the global average of 62 percent. Furthermore, 79 percent of respondents stated they felt right at home, while 70 percent found it easy to forge friendships with locals during their stay.
Mexico’s host cities—Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey—welcomed an estimated 7.8 million international travelers during the tournament. In the capital alone, events related to the World Cup drew approximately 12 million participants. The vibrant atmosphere reached a high point when roughly one million fans gathered at the iconic Angel of Independence monument to celebrate the Mexican national team’s victory over Ecuador, which secured their spot in the Round of 16.
The country’s organization and hospitality also earned praise at the highest diplomatic levels. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo noted that international leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and King Felipe VI of Spain, offered their congratulations on Mexico’s hosting duties and the national team’s performance.
While the 2026 World Cup wrapped up with Spain claiming the championship title, the InterNations study confirms that Mexico achieved its own major victory, leaving a lasting global impression through the extraordinary warmth and hospitality of its people.
