An attempted armed robbery on the Saltillo-Monterrey highway resulted in high tension, a major tractor-trailer rollover, and a complete closure of the route at kilometer 86 heading toward Monterrey, Nuevo León.
According to initial reports, the heavy-vehicle operator was traveling along the highway when a group of armed men intercepted the truck in an attempt to hijack it near the municipal limits of García and Santa Catarina. Refusing to pull over, the driver executed an emergency maneuver to evade the criminals, ultimately losing control of the vehicle. The semi-truck overturned completely, blocking the asphalt on the northbound lanes toward Monterrey and causing traffic backups stretching several kilometers.
Swift Action by Fellow Truckers
Following the crash, fellow truck drivers who witnessed the unfolding incident intervened to prevent the suspects from escaping. Witnesses successfully subdued one of the alleged assailants, holding him at the scene until law enforcement finally arrived.
The incident has reignited heavy criticism from transport workers regarding highway security. Several drivers voiced ongoing frustration, stating that commercial routes in the area remain vulnerable to criminal activity due to a perceived lack of presence by the National Guard.
Emergency responders and traffic authorities eventually arrived to secure the perimeter, manage the heavy congestion, and coordinate cleanup and towing operations to clear the wreckage. Authorities have not yet confirmed the arrest of any remaining suspects involved in the attempted hijacking.
