The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that the low-pressure zone located inland over western Nuevo León has seen its probability of cyclonic development rise to 40 percent within 48 hours and to 50 percent over the next seven days.
The latest update on the system indicates it is located 310 kilometers west-northwest of Barra El Mezquital, Tamaulipas, and is moving east-northeast.
This tropical depression is driving the increased likelihood of rain in Nuevo León over the coming days—a factor that prompted State Civil Protection to issue an alert for rainfall and thunderstorms for this Monday.
On his X account, Nuevo León Governor Samuel García noted that “heavy rain” is expected in the state this Monday afternoon and tomorrow, urging the public to take necessary precautions to avoid issues.
“Given the current tropical depression in the Gulf, heavy rain is forecast for Nuevo León this afternoon and tomorrow. Please drive carefully and pay attention to instructions from Nuevo León Civil Protection,” he stated.
Where in the state is rain expected this Monday?
Nuevo León Civil Protection issued a weather alert this Monday for heavy rains caused by a low-pressure trough in the northeast of the country, which is interacting with incoming moisture and a frontal system approaching from the north.
The agency added that the northern and citrus-growing regions are the most likely to see rain, with an 80 percent probability for each. Next are the metropolitan, eastern, southern, and mountainous zones, with a 70 percent probability.
The agency emphasized the importance of following these recommendations during heavy rain:
Drive with extra caution
Avoid crossing rivers, fords, and streams
In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1
