To safeguard the well-being and property of Nuevo León residents and visitors during the holiday season, the State Government, through the Fuerza Civil (State Police), has resumed its “carousel” operations on all highways and freeways in Nuevo León.
Following the Security Council meeting, chaired by the Secretary General of the Government, Miguel Ángel Flores Serna, the head of Fuerza Civil, Gerardo Escamilla Vargas, reported that police presence is being doubled on the roads to the United States, both through Laredo and Reynosa, as well as on the route to Colombia.
“Operation Carousel consists of escorting groups of vehicles in various convoys along the aforementioned roads. This police escort offers additional benefits, such as roadside assistance for breakdowns and medical support. The operation is conducted by the Highway Division, accompanied by the Armored Division, the Air Division, and the Territorial Control Division,” he stated.
“If any vehicle experiences mechanical failure, we also have the opportunity to support our citizens. We recommend that in any circumstance, whether they require assistance or are in need, they call 911 so that the C5 center can immediately coordinate support and provide the necessary assistance,” he added.
The police commander announced the results for November of the joint security strategy called Total Presence.
This strategy relies on five key elements: Operation Wall, the Metropolitan Coordination Group, the new operational divisions of the Civil Force, as well as accelerated recruitment and citizen oversight in this accountability forum.
In November, Operation Wall was activated once, and surveillance and intelligence operations were carried out, resulting in the arrest of 279 people, the seizure of 52 vehicles, and the confiscation of 13 firearms.
Regarding the Metropolitan Coordination Group, comprised of the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard, the National Intelligence Center, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Migration Institute, the local Prosecutor’s Office, the State Investigation Agency, the Civil Force, and all metropolitan police forces in the citrus-growing region and the Salinas Valley, a total of 340 arrests were made in November, 18 firearms were seized, and 32 vehicles related to high-impact crimes were impounded.
As for homicide statistics, November ended with 53 intentional homicides.
“This keeps us below the average, which means we are maintaining a 54 percent reduction compared to last year and a 68 percent reduction in daily homicides compared to the peak in June of last year. Looking at it in a national comparison, Nuevo León continues to be below the average, dropping one more place to now rank 15th nationally,” he stated.
Gerardo Escamilla said that for the second leg of the semifinals between Tigres and Cruz Azul this Saturday, December 6, a joint security operation will be carried out both in the municipality of San Nicolás, around the Tigres stadium, and throughout the rest of the city, involving more than 2,000 state, municipal, and Civil Protection personnel.
“These exercises, in addition to helping maintain peace at these types of mass events, give us the opportunity to put into practice some of the new techniques we will use leading up to the World Cup,” he pointed out.
