Once again, Nuevo León stood out nationally in detected cases of monkeypox, registering two of the six cases reported in Mexico during week 47.
While 30 patients were diagnosed with this disease in the country over the past three weeks, 11 of them were in Mexico City, 9 in Nuevo León, 3 in the State of Mexico, 2 in Quintana Roo, and one each in Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Hidalgo, Puebla, and Querétaro.
Jen Mullini, a member of the disability rights movement, stated that, according to data from the Epidemiological Bulletin, there was only one case of this disease in the state in 2014, compared to 57 this year, a difference of 5,600 percent.
And, at the national level, there was a 564.6 percent increase in 2025, rising from 113 to 751.
Of the total cases in the country, only 5 of the 751 were in women, two of them detected in Mexico City, one in Jalisco, one in Oaxaca, and one in San Luis Potosí.
Regarding the national breakdown, Mexico City stands out with 435 cases, followed by Jalisco with 82, Nuevo León with 57, the State of Mexico with 35, Veracruz with 34, Quintana Roo with 19, Aguascalientes with 13, Querétaro with 13, and Hidalgo with 10.
It is important to mention that these nine states together account for 698 of the cases, that is, 92.94 percent of the national total.
On the other hand, with five weeks left in 2025, seven states remain free of this disease, with Campeche, Colima, Guerrero, Sonora, Tabasco, Tlaxcala, and Zacatecas reporting zero cases.
