The state government today presented the infrastructure and mobility plan that forms part of Nuevo León’s preparations to host the 2026 World Cup, with the ambition of leaving a lasting legacy beyond the tournament.
Governor Samuel García detailed the top 10 of the 34 infrastructure projects being carried out in Nuevo León, highlighting the construction of the longest monorail in the Americas.
Among the most significant are the new metro lines, a comprehensive overhaul of public transportation, and improvements to connectivity and urban spaces.
“In Nuevo León, true to our pragmatism, we decided not to spend a single peso under the pretext of the World Cup, but rather to invest everything in public works so that, once the World Cup is over, a great legacy of what we have called the new Nuevo León will remain,” García stated.
The plan includes the construction of two new metro lines—Metrorrey Line 4 and Metrorrey Line 6—which would double the current network: from 38 to more than 80 kilometers.
In addition, Line 6 will connect directly to Monterrey International Airport, facilitating access to and from the airport.
Public transportation will also be modernized: 4,000 new buses will be added and 500 new bus stops will be installed, with the goal of completely renewing the urban bus route network.
Among the most ambitious projects are the construction of the “longest monorail in the Americas,” as well as the renovation of key areas in Monterrey.
In terms of security, state police forces are expected to be strengthened as part of the preparations, with the aim of guaranteeing a safe environment for visitors and residents.
Official discourse insists that the projects are not a “temporary measure for a single event,” but rather a structural investment that will transform mobility, infrastructure, and urban life in Nuevo León.
If the deadlines are met, the population—not just those attending the World Cup—will be the biggest beneficiaries.
With these actions, Nuevo León is not only preparing to receive tourists and sporting events: it seeks to redefine its image, modernize its infrastructure and leave a tangible legacy.
