Despite warnings issued by the American Consulate regarding the risks on Nuevo León highways, state and federal authorities apparently failed to reinforce security.
On the highway to Reynosa, in the municipality of General Bravo, alleged robberies were reported Friday morning, targeting travelers who were reportedly robbed of their vehicles.
It was reported that one of the victims is an employee of the Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office, and another citizen was shot but managed to escape in his truck to the municipality of Cadereyta.
Unofficial sources indicated that the crimes occurred in the Peña Blanca area, within the municipality of General Bravo, Nuevo León, a short distance from the border with Tamaulipas.
It is reported that one of the victims, who managed to avoid having his vehicle stolen, drove nearly 100 kilometers along the highway, reaching kilometer 41 in the municipality of Cadereyta, where he was finally assisted by paramedics and authorities.
So far, no state or federal authority has commented on this issue, which has gained traction through its dissemination on social media.
A source close to the Nuevo León State Police (Fuerza Civil) indicated that two reports of assaults and vehicle thefts were indeed received and are currently under investigation.
It is reported that the toll road is operating normally, and patrols have been implemented in the area.
This security situation comes two days after the American Consulate in Monterrey alerted its employees and officials to avoid traveling specifically on the highway to Nuevo Laredo due to the prevailing insecurity there.
