With the aim of promoting and preserving the rich culinary tradition of northeastern Mexico, the Santa Lucía Festival launched the call for the 5th Traditional Elements Cooking Contest “Nuevo León Sabe Bien.”
This contest, which seeks to recover and celebrate the stories, anecdotes and memories associated with the region’s gastronomy, offers participants the opportunity to win up to $40,000 in cash.
Contest details and modalities
The contest, which opened its call in June and will close on August 11, is aimed at all residents of Nuevo León over 18 years of age, regardless of their profession or trade, with a love for traditional cuisine.
Interested parties can register a recipe in one of the two available modalities: sweet dish or savory dish. It is important to note that the winners of the first places in the 2023 edition will not be able to participate in the same category in this edition.
Participants must follow a free registration process through the official website of the contest, https://www.nuevoleonsabebien.com.mx/ where they must detail their recipe, including cooking times and necessary grammages, in addition to telling the story or anecdote behind the dish. Subsequently, the semi-finalists will be selected, who will be contacted to physically present their dish before a qualifying jury.
Prizes and evaluation
In both modalities, the prizes are the following:
1st place: $40,000
2nd place: $30,000
3rd place: $20,000
The winners will be announced during the fourth week of August on the contest and Santa Lucía Festival websites. In addition, there is the possibility that the winning recipes and other selected ones will be included in a book that will compile the culinary wealth of Nuevo León.

With the registration deadline approaching, the organizing committee of the contest recommends that those interested complete their registration as soon as possible and ensure that they meet all the established requirements.
