The mutilated legs of a person were used to hold up a poster that served as a response and threat to the arrival of “Los Chukys” to the heart of the metropolitan area of Monterrey. The message is signed by the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by Los Chapitos and marked one of the most violent days in Nuevo Leon.

Along with the narco-message were several black bags filled with the dismembered bodies of two people – according to unofficial reports -; victims of the ‘narco war’ that “Los Chukys” of the Cartel del Noreste “publicized” with narco-banners hanging on bridges and that obtained as a response a wave of dismemberments at the hands of the Sinaloa Cartel.

“Stop hanging your filth (narco-banners) and killing policemen like idiots to heat up the square,” read part of the message signed by La Chapizza and detained with the legs of one of the murdered victims in Apodaca, Nuevo León.
It is the second consecutive day that mutilated bodies appear in Nuevo León. The first of them was reported by residents of the municipality of Doctor Arroyo, who alerted about human remains left inside a cooler and with a message in which the Cartel del Noreste and the independents were called to “align” with La Chapizza.

This increase in violence catapulted Nuevo León to first place in the number of intentional homicides during July 23, since according to information from the National Security Commission (CNS), of the 87 people murdered in the country, 12 crimes occurred in the entity governed by Samuel García; They are followed by Baja California (11 victims), Guanajuato (7) and Jalisco and Sonora (6 cases each).

While the Sinaloa Cartel (Chapitos faction) is fighting over the metropolitan area of Monterrey with the Cartel del Noreste (Los Chukys cell), on the border with Tamaulipas, another war is being waged between the Gulf Cartel and the Cartel del Noreste, mainly in the municipalities of Doctor Coss, General Bravo and China that connect the Nuevo León capital with the border city of Reynosa.

Another group threatened in the “Los Chukys” narco-banners is the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), whose presence in Nuevo León was confirmed since 2021, when the then Secretary of Security, Aldo Fasci, recognized a graffiti on the Rompepicos Dam (south of Monterrey): “CJNG, we are going for Santa”.

“We are not here to mess with innocent people, or extort, or kidnap, or ask for fees. We are here to cleanse the town of all the rats like the Sinaloa Cartel, Jalisco Cartel, Gulf Cartel and independents,” read one of the narco-banners signed by “Los Chukys” hung in the cities of Guadalupe, Juárez and Santa Catarina.

This war that has intensified since 2023 has already caused an increase in the number of homicides committed in Nuevo León, since while between January and June of last year 942 murders were recorded (619 of a wilful nature), in the same period of time in 2024 there are already 1,048 homicides (781 wilful).

In their response to the narco-banners of “Los Chukys”, Los Chapítos warn that “they should stop killing policemen like idiots”; This is in reference to the 14 uniformed officers killed in Nuevo León in 2024 (data up to the cut-off date of July 18).

Nuevo León ranks third in terms of police officers killed, only behind the 36 uniformed officers who were victims of homicide in Guanajuato and the 18 in the State of Mexico; the state at war with drugs is tied with Chiapas and its 14 uniformed officers killed in the first 7 months of the year. At the national level, 172 agents have already been killed.
