The Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA) is excited to announce a new international service to Monterrey, Mexico, with Aerus Airlines. This will be the first nonstop flight since 1967. The service will begin on September 12 and will operate four weekly flights between Monterrey International Airport (MTY) and CCIA.
The flights will depart from CCIA on Tuesdays at 2:10 p.m., Thursdays at 2:10 p.m., Saturdays at 3:40 p.m., and Sundays at 11:35 a.m. The journey takes approximately one hour and fifty minutes, with a slight time difference during daylight saving time.
The Cessna Gran Caravan EX aircraft will carry up to nine passengers each flight, accompanied by two pilots. The airline has begun scheduled passenger operations in April 2023 and is committed to providing convenient travel options for business and leisure travelers between Corpus Christi and Monterrey.
Leticia Zamudio, a resident of Corpus Christi who moved from Mexico five years ago, expressed her excitement about the new service. She mentioned that she previously had to drive or take a flight to Houston before taking another plane to Mexico, which was difficult and expensive for her. However, with direct flights available from CCIA, she feels more at ease.
According to Kevin Smith, the city of Corpus Christi’s director of aviation, at least 10 passengers travel to Monterrey every day. He hopes that the new service will attract some of these passengers who currently drive or fly to Houston before reaching their destination.
Although the aircraft holds only nine passengers and has a shorter flight duration due to its size, Leticia is satisfied with the arrangement. She believes that there are fewer problems when there are fewer people on board, which makes it easier for her daughters to travel to Mexico.
This new service marks a significant milestone for the airport, and the city of Corpus Christi is thrilled to welcome Aerus and this new international destination. It paves the way for attracting more international destinations in the future.
“We are thrilled to welcome Aerus and this new international service to Corpus Christi,” Mayor Paulette Guajardo stated in a press release. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our residents to connect with Monterrey, Mexico, for business and pleasure. It also signifies the growing demand for air travel in our community and paves the way for attracting more international destinations in the future.”
