For the second consecutive month, Nuevo León set a record for extortion, with authorities reporting 117 cases in April, surpassing the previous record of 106 set in March of this year.
These are, to date, the only months in Nuevo León’s criminal history with 100 or more extortion cases reported in a single month.
According to statistics from the State Attorney General’s Office, the top six months with the most extortion cases in the state are now: April 2026 with 117, March of this year with 106, April 2024 with 99, October 2024 with 97, March 2025 with 95, and October 2025 with 94.
Based on official figures, it is noteworthy that although this year has the two months with the most reported cases, in 2026 the state only saw a 5.84 percent increase in extortion cases, rising from 308 between January 1 and April 30 of last year to 326 during the same period this year.
This minimal difference is largely due to the fact that the Attorney General’s Office only registered 33 extortion cases in Nuevo León in January.
While the number of extortion cases rose 112.12 percent in February, closing with 70 cases, it then increased by 51.43 percent in March, reaching 106, and subsequently by 10.38 percent in April, rising to 117.
Furthermore, it should be noted that under the current state administration, Nuevo León has averaged 70.24 extortion crimes per month, accumulating a total of 3,863 cases over 55 months.
Specifically, 188 cases were reported in the last quarter of 2021, followed by 746 in 2022, then rising to 797 in 2023, 866 in 2024, 940 in 2025, and reaching 326 in just four months of 2026.
