The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) in Nuevo León reported that it has assisted approximately 70 people affected by the suspension of Magnicharters flights, a measure that began on April 11 and will continue until April 25.
Maximino Espinosa Zamudio, director of the Consumer Protection Office (ODECO) in the Monterrey metropolitan area, explained that since the beginning of the situation, support has been provided to travelers stranded in various destinations.
He noted that complaints are received daily, so those affected should present any evidence that supports their case.
“It’s important that you come here to the office at Moisés Sáenz 6602, in Mitras. We need you to bring a written account of the events, proof of address, your voter ID card (INE) and any receipts you may have, emails… anything that can serve as evidence, that’s what you need to bring,” he explained.
Regarding immediate actions, he indicated that they are seeking a settlement with the airline to guarantee compensation.
“Right now, we are advising them and receiving their complaints. Yes, what we are doing right now is filing complaints. (…) Before discussing sanctions, what we want is to reach a settlement,” he emphasized.
Regarding possible sanctions, Espinosa Zamudio clarified that for the moment the priority is to assist passengers and reach agreements, although he acknowledged that the agency has the authority to demand compliance with consumer rights.
“Right now, what we want is to reach a settlement in favor of the consumer. If they had a flight and missed it, what will the compensation be, or how will they recover the losses suffered by the consumer? In other words, we are going to start the settlement process with them,” he said.
Finally, he reiterated that they will continue to address the situation and that the settlement hearings will be scheduled once all the files are compiled.
