Nuevo León has the most confirmed cases of whooping cough in Mexico so far this year.

After reporting ten cases in week 34, the state of Nuevo León reached 132 confirmed cases of whooping cough for the year 2025, moving up to first place nationally.

According to the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the federal Ministry of Health, 1,364 confirmed cases of whooping cough have been recorded in Mexico, and the states with the highest number of cases are Nuevo León with 132, Mexico City with 129, Chihuahua with 126, and Aguascalientes with 102.

Between these states, they account for 35.85% of the total number of patients treated for this disease in the country.

According to the authorities, the national incidence this year is 1.02 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with the highest in Aguascalientes with 6.69, followed by Chihuahua with 3.18, Coahuila with 2.45, and Nuevo León with 2.21 per 100,000 inhabitants.

It’s worth mentioning that after 34 weeks of last year, Nuevo León only added five confirmed cases of whooping cough, meaning this year there is a 2,540 percent increase compared to the previous year, rising from 5 to 132 cases.

Meanwhile, the increase in whooping cough nationwide in 2025 compared to 2024 is 430.74 percent, going from 257 to 1,364.

Meanwhile, both in the state and nationwide, women accounted for more than 57 percent of cases.

In Nuevo León, the figure was 58.33 percent, representing 77 of the 132 cases.

And in Mexico, the figure was 57.26 percent, after adding 781 of the 1,364 cases for the year.

Among men, there were 55 cases in Nuevo León and 583 nationwide, representing a 41.67 and 42.74 percent share, respectively.
