After guaranteeing safety, quality, and professionalism in adventure tourism, the state Secretary of Tourism, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, highlighted the importance of receiving certification under the EC 1663 Competency Standard.

“This is the first step on a solid path: professionalizing to grow, ensuring to enjoy. We want every adventure experience in Nuevo León to be safe, technical, and high-quality,” stated the state official.

EC 1663, along with the complementary standards EC-0217.1 and EC-0076, will provide instructors and supervisors with the skills to provide training and assess the competencies of those who operate activities such as hiking, canyoning, mountain biking, and other nature and adventure experiences.

The Ministry of Tourism presented the first team of 10 instructors and supervisors who will be trained to evaluate and certify tourism service providers in this sector. As part of this phase, three of them received their initial certification through the “Triada” process, becoming the first in the state to achieve this accreditation.

With this measure, the Ministry of Tourism establishes that no operator may offer these types of activities without certification, thus ensuring the protection of visitors, communities, and natural environments.

“This certification responds to an urgent need: to prevent accidents caused by service providers who operate without adequate training,” said María Guadalupe Guidi Kawas, Undersecretary of Tourism Intelligence.

The certification was presented at an event held at the CANACO Monterrey facilities and was attended by state authorities, representatives of the tourism sector, and members of the Committee of Instructors and Verifiers.
