Roads are unsafe for most residents of the Monterrey Metropolitan Area, reveals Inegi

On average, 53.1 percent of adults in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area municipalities included in the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU) perceive roads as public spaces that generate a feeling of insecurity.

While for residents of San Pedro, the road was ranked as the most unsafe place, according to ENSU data from the first quarter of 2025, with 64.4 percent of residents expressing this perception.

Meanwhile, for residents of Escobedo and Apodaca, the road ranked second among the most unsafe public spaces, with 57.4 and 47.2 percent, respectively.

According to the quarterly measurement instrument of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), in San Pedro, roads led the perception of insecurity, with 64.4 percent, followed by 41.1 percent who indicated ATMs and 39.9 percent who indicated public transportation.

For their part, adults in Monterrey placed ATMs in first place with 65 percent, public transportation in second with 63.7 percent, and roads in third with 61.9 percent.

Above places such as the streets they usually use, the bank, the park or recreation center, the market, the car, or the shopping center.

In the case of Escobedo, the ATM was the public place with the highest perception of insecurity, with 62.5 percent, followed by roads with 57.4 percent, and public transportation with 57 percent.

Similarly, in Santa Catarina, more than 50 percent of the population reported feeling unsafe on the road, with 50.2 percent, and higher than that, their perception of ATMs was 61.3 percent, and public transportation was 55.3 percent.

According to ENSU figures, in Guadalupe, the road was ranked as the third most unsafe public place with 48.9 percent of mentions, behind the ATM with 61.3 percent and public transportation with 57 percent.

For Apodequenses, the road is the second most unsafe public space, with 47.2 percent of opinions in this regard, while the ATM was first with 57.1 percent and public transportation third with 42.3 percent.

Finally, in San Nicolás, 45.3 percent of adults in that municipality expressed feeling unsafe on the road, second only to the 56.2 percent who said they felt unsafe at the ATM and the 45.5 percent who said they felt unsafe on public transportation.
