On Monday, March 10th, the Trump administration unveiled a new app called CBP Home, designed to allow immigrants in the United States illegally to voluntarily “self-deport” rather than face possible arrest and detention.

🔹 How does the CBP Home app work?
The app, developed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), allows migrants to declare their “intention to depart” voluntarily. According to the government, this option allows them to legally return in the future to pursue the “American dream.”

🔹 Trump administration stance
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the move is intended to make it easier for migrants to leave without facing immediate legal action.
“If they don’t, we’ll find them, we’ll deport them, and they’ll never come back,” Noem warned.

🔹 Additional measures
Starting April 11, a new regulation will require people who do not have legal status in the U.S. to register with the federal government if they do not want to face fines or jail time.

🔹 CBP Home replaces CBP One
This new app replaces the CBP One app, implemented during Joe Biden’s term, which allowed migrants in Mexico to schedule appointments to request legal entry at the border.

🔹 Criticism of the previous program
Republicans criticized the CBP One app for considering that it facilitated mass migration without adequately vetting those requesting entry.
