In efforts to advance the cross-border train initiative, Nuevo León Governor Samuel Garcia met with Laredo, Texas Mayor Victor Treviño to discuss the Mexico-United States railroad and establish a comprehensive cooperation agreement for the project.
“As we have already done with authorities from other major Texas cities, Laredo joins this project to enhance Nuevo León-Texas connectivity and further solidify our Colombia-Laredo Customs as the most competitive on the Mexico-United States border,” said Garcia Sepulveda.
Mayor Victor Treviño emphasized that promoting the Cross Border Train is a priority for Laredo, aiming to strengthen the strategic alliance with Nuevo León and Mexico.
The agreement was formalized at the Codefront headquarters, the entity managing the Colombia-Laredo Border Port on behalf of the Nuevo León Government.
Governor Garcia highlighted that Nuevo León will complete the necessary procedures this year to secure the U.S. presidential permit for expanding the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge from 8 to 16 lanes.
During the meeting, the progress of the project was reviewed with all stakeholders.
Attendees included Marco Gonzalez, Secretary of Regional and Agricultural Development; Juan Carlos Mendoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo; Emmanuel Loo, Undersecretary of Investment of Nuevo León; Lieutenant Colonel Eric Salinas, Administrator of Colombia Customs; Kent Richards, Director of Laredo International Bridges; Melissa Montemayor, Baltazar Avila, and Blasita Lopez, Consultants of LJA; Eduardo Villarreal Delgado, President of the Colombian Customs Brokers Association; and Alfonso de los Rios, CEO of NOWPORTS, among others.
