Given the current economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, governors of Coahuila, Colima, Durango, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas asked President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to cancel the construction of the Maya Train, the Santa Airport Lucia and the Dos Bocas refinery.
The governors consider that with the cancellation of these projects the country could face the economic crisis that the pandemic has left and with which more than a million jobs have been lost, they also argued that said works can hardly alleviate the crisis in the short term.
Previously Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís, Governor of Coahuila; José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez, from Colima; Silvano Aureoles Conejo, from Michoacán; Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, from Nuevo León; José Rosas Aispuro, from Durango; Diego Sinhué Rodríguez Vallejo, from Guanajuato; Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, from Jalisco and Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, from Tamaulipas, had requested a meeting with the president, but when they did not receive a response, they decided to send a letter asking for dialogue with him.
“Today we reiterate that urgent call to have a frank and direct dialogue, based on legitimate concern in the face of a critical situation that makes reaching agreements as authorities urgent,” wrote Silvano Aureoles on his Twitter account.
